Free Online Metronome

A steady click track for practicing an instrument, rehearsing a routine, or simply keeping time. Set a BPM directly, drag the slider, or figure out an unknown tempo with the Tap Tempo button — tap along to a beat you hear and the BPM updates automatically.

How to Use It

Set your tempo with the slider, the +/− buttons, or by tapping the Tap Tempo button in rhythm at least four times. Choose a time signature to accent the first beat of each measure, then press Start. The dot above pulses on every beat, glowing brighter and in a different color on beat one.

Pro TipFinding a song's tempo

Play a song and tap along to the kick drum or main beat using Tap Tempo. After 6–8 taps the BPM reading stabilizes — that's the song's actual tempo, useful for DJs matching tracks or musicians learning a cover by ear.

Tips & Tricks

Practice slower than the target tempo first. Nail a passage at 70% speed before working up to full tempo — it's a standard technique for learning difficult passages cleanly.

Use the accented beat as an anchor. The first beat of each measure is easy to lose track of in longer pieces; let the accented click keep you oriented.

6/8 time still clicks in 6. The tool clicks each eighth note rather than grouping into two dotted-quarter pulses, which is useful for slow practice but you may want to mentally group in twos at performance tempo.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the timing?

The metronome uses your device's audio clock via the Web Audio API, which is far more precise than a simple JavaScript timer and won't drift during long sessions.

What's the BPM range?

You can set anywhere from 30 to 260 BPM, covering everything from a slow largo to a fast drum and bass tempo.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes, it works in any modern mobile browser — just be aware some phones mute audio in silent mode.
